Five sound recordings made by James Stukenberg on a walk taken in September, 2007. The stereo recordings are binaural and sound the best when listened to with headphones.
I stood on a rock at the edge of the creek and dangled both microphones about a foot above the water. The low hum of a distant lawnmower can also be heard.
I stood in the middle of a doorway with one microphone in the building and one outside of the building. The garbage dump has a machine that compacts the garbage and makes a loud humming noise along with the occasional loud thump. At one point, a man kicked a metal washer across the ground. Along with bags of garbage being thrown into the dump, a ceramic lamp can also be heard being thrown.
Two dogs were play fighting and chasing eachother around a big pine tree. When they ran around to the end I was on and saw me watching them, they abruptly stopped and began barking at me. A man was working on a tractor in the area so the tractor can be heard idling.
In this recording a man is cleaning excess mortar off of the stones in a recently mortared fireplace using a chisel and a sponge and some water. The fireplace is inside of a log cabin that is being renovated. The cabin walls are not finished, so there are large gaps in the walls. The floor is currently made up of plywood.
When I came across this bridge, I dangled my microphones about five feet above the river and recorded some stones being dropped into the water. The microphones were about five feet apart.
